February Blues

The cold has officially gotten to me. I laugh at how annoyed I used to get walking from my car into high school for a total of 5 seconds when now I walk 30 minutes around my college campus in freezing temps AND snow. Also, the time of year has commenced when everyone gets sick so it just spreads..and spreads..and spreads.

However! Despite the shivering cold, feeling under the weather, and lack of sunshine, the February Blues can be beat. How, you may ask?

Well let me tell you a little something about my friend gratitude.

As I’ve gotten older I have observed that around this time, everyone starts to feel the same drag and lag. No one is motivated, everyone seems to complain about something, and let’s be honest, everyone is counting down the days until spring arrives. I have also found that it is easy to get sucked into devices, especially phones. We dream of sunny days and when we were tan. But what if we shifted our perspective?

Gratitude is something that is hard to grasp, but the inborn joy it brings is unmatched. Since I find the February Blues rolling around, I have tried to set my attention on what I’m grateful for right now, even in these cold, dreary days.

When our minds are consumed with how discontent we are in our current circumstances, it can bog us down. I will admit the weather definitely doesn’t help, but I think identifying the good in our lives rather than dwelling on the negatives changes. the. game.

Here are some things I have been reflecting on that I am beyond grateful for!

  • My family

  • My education

  • Being able to move my body

  • Good music

  • Quiet mornings

  • Laughs and hugs

  • Church

  • New experiences

  • Helping others

  • Being creative

  • Matching pajamas

So, my advice to you if you’re feeling blue is to be grateful. Look around you, and get off your phone and out of your head!

Best,

Meg
